FAQs

Do I need an Appointment to come in?
You do not need an appointment to come in and try on shoes, we always have experienced salespeople available.  You do need an appointment if you have been given a prescription by your doctor for something specific.  Such as Diabetic shoes, custom orthotics, shoe modifications or if you need to consult with one of our Pedorthists.

How do I get my Diabetic shoes through Medicare?
You must have a (CMN) Certificate of Medical Necessity from your primary care doctor, the person in charge of your Diabetic condition.  Your primary care doctor will determine if you qualify. He or she can also write an Rx for your shoes and inserts, or this can be done by a second doctor such as a foot doctor or orthopedist.  Medicare allows 1 pair of shoes and 3 pair of multi-density inserts per calendar year.  If you have all your paperwork ready when you come in and meet certain criteria we will even accept assignment on your shoes. Which means you pay nothing up front? We will gladly send a CMN to you by mail if you call us.

My heels hurt after I walk a lot or when I get out of bed in the morning?
If your pain is chronic, we always recommend you see your doctor.  In general, however, Heel Pain Syndrome (HPS) or Plantar Fasciitis (PF) is an over-stressed and inflamed very tough connective tissue on the bottom of your foot. It connects the heel to the ball of your foot and is very important part of your foot’s supportive structure.  Sometimes a Heel Spur can be associated with this very painful condition. Conservative management such as stretching, icing, proper off the shelf or custom orthotics, cushioning and more supportive footwear can help alleviate your pain.

I have pain in the balls of my feet when I walk a lot.
Metatarsalgia is the general term for pain in the balls of your feet. It is caused by excessive pressure on the metatarsal heads.  A doctor should examine your foot to find the exact cause of your pain if it is severe enough. If it is less severe than you can generally find relief through proper footwear with good support and biomechanically designed soles, such as most well made running or walking shoes. Shoes with more toe room and orthotics with metatarsal support can also help redistribute some of the pressure and reduce pain. Metatarsal cushions or pads can also help.

How long will my custom orthotics take to build and does insurance pay for them?
After you are casted by us, our in-house lab can usually have your orthotics ready in about 1 week.  Custom orthotics does require a prescription from your doctor. A specific diagnosis will also help with insurance reimbursement. Coverage on custom orthotics does vary from company to company. Your particular policy will determine if you have coverage for custom orthotics which falls under the Durable Medical Equipment category.  You may need to call your company to find out if you have specific coverage. We are a in-network provider for Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Is parking ever a problem at your store?
No, there is plenty of free parking right out front.  We are also wheelchair accessible.

Where exactly are you located?
We are at 7013 W. Dempster St. which is a half block West of Waukegan Rd. on the south side of the street. We are in about 1.8 miles west of 94 (Edens expressway) and 2.5 miles east of 294 (tri-state tollway).  We are in a small strip center called the RON CENTER.  There is an Arby's on one side and a Dunkin Donuts on the other side of the center.
